The next KALMind Course begins on Saturday 21st April 2018.
KALMind is an 8 week programme incorporating Mindfulness, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Positive Psychology. The course is delivered in two 4 week stand alone programmes.
The contents of this course include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Mindfulness and Positive Psychology. So what does this mean?
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
CBT is a therapy that helps a person to understand the links between the thoughts they have, the way that they feel and the things that they do. CBT is not used to delve into your past, instead it is about looking at your current difficulties and highlights negative patterns (as patterns shown below) and offers immediate strategies that can reduce symptoms of low mood, anxiety, panic disorder, depression and stress.
Being Mindful means paying more attention to the present moment – your thoughts, feelings and experiences as they happen. Practicing Mindfulness can prevent you from being distracted by thoughts about the past, and worries about the future. We often get caught up in ‘what if‘ patterns of thought, which brings worries about things that might not even happen. This type of thinking can cause us to feel anxious and worries. We can also get caught up in ‘if only’ patterns of thought which can make us feel sad and upset about things that have happened in the past. Spending so much time in our head thinking about the past and/or future can stop us from enjoying what is happening in the present. In this way we are in a permanent habit of not living our life in the present and denying ourselves happiness.
Positive Psychology is the scientific study of human strengths, happiness and how we can flourish as people. Positive Psychology helps us to notice those positives that are in our lives and can help us to understand what makes life worth living. Psychology has often focused on the negatives, ie when things go wrong, and a person becomes unwell. Positive Psychology looks at how we can become happier and more fulfilled.
KALMind brings together all 3 of the above into an 8 week program. Sometimes people are fearful of joining groups and worry that therapy is about revealing your deepest worries and about analysing your childhood. The KALMind course is a very supportive group that is more about experiencing positive strategies within the group, and then reflecting throughout the week on what you have learnt and how it may apply to you as an individual.
KALMind runs for 4 weeks and will begin on Saturday 21st April 2018 at 2pm.
The cost of the course is £50 and with this you will receive a workbook with a script of all meditations learnt on the KALMind course as well as worksheets to reflect on your journey to becoming a more relaxed, calmer, happier person.
